All is Well, All is Well

Hello!

I know I always say another good week, but its always true another good week! This week we had three of our favorite people get baptized!

Remember Sister Sophie? And remember the man who had an alcohol addiction? His name is Brother Dick. Both him and his son Anthony were baptized this week as well! It was a great service and like usual there were crazy things that almost made it so it didn't happen but things work out like they always do! And even Anthony had to be baptized four times because he kept coming out of the water. But it was a great day and it was so good to see people that I've known for a long time now go into the waters of baptism. Sister Sophie bore her testimony about how happy she was to finally find the true church. She has come so far from meeting with so many missionaries and now she has the opportunity to bring even her family to the truth and I know she will.

This week we also saw one of our past investigators who didn't end up getting baptized before because he had some fears. But we have been working with him and helping him increase in his faith and on Friday he decided he was ready and is so excited too. The time comes for everyone and I learned that I must be patient and wait for God's time.

I'm so grateful for the time I have here on mission. Truly all is well. And I hope that more wonderful weeks are to come!

Have a good week!

Pompano Pompano

Well another good week here in LILONGWE!

We had exchanges this week and I got to go with my old companion Sister Tukuafu. We always have a good time and I’m always learning from her. We saw some great people and I love the time I have to spend in my area cause soon soon (pompano pompano) my time will be up and I want to enjoy every minute I have.

This week at church we had 16 investigators or new friends come! WOW it was a record for sure and it was a great meeting too. But one girl that came was special. So a little while ago really when Sister George first came, we taught these two younger girls named Moreen and Faddis. Now they weren’t super interested so we just told them to tell us when they wanted to us to come back. The other day when we were on exchanges we were somewhere far from where Faddis’ house was but she saw us and came up to me and told me to meet her other friend. I met her and invited them both to church and told Faddis that we could come and pick her up. SHE LITERALLY STAYS THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR TO THE CHURCH. Anyways so Sunday came and we go to pick her and walk with her and she is not ready yet so we told her to come when she is ready well.... we go into church and a few minutes later a member comes in late and tells us there is a girl outside who is scared to come in and insisting she wont come till the sisters come and get her.  We go outside and find Faddis and Unity, our recent convert, talking to each other. Turns out they are friends. So we took them both inside and brought them to class. But the best part is that there is some background behind why it was such a big deal for Faddis to come to church..... when we first taught her she had told us that she heard that when people go to our church they disappear... and that we don’t do normal things inside and a bunch of other rumors that I’d prefer not to mention... well.... we encouraged her to prove them wrong cause they were wrong! Well time passed but this Sunday she CAME and she told us after that she was so happy she did. How she really saw how she was able to learn more about Jesus Christ and felt really good during the sacrament. I’m so glad she came and that she had Unity to help her thorough it too. And it really taught me that a lot of times we let fears overcome something that could be really great. As we follow the spirit and replace faith with fear we will find out that our Heavenly Father has a lot in store for us.

Also this week our dear brother Christopher got baptized! He is a man from the Congo. He has been practicing and practicing his English and learning from us too! He is such a humble guy. He doesn’t have much materially but he does have a big heart and strong desire to follow our Savior and his baptism was a happy day for sure. He has been waiting for it for a long time! After he was baptized He bore a powerful testimony that he had written on a piece of paper and worked really hard on to make sure it was good English. Never have I met someone more committed to live the gospel and study the scriptures than this guy. He studies everyday and I know that Heavenly Father will provide for him as he stays faithful.

Also this week one of our people we are teaching offered us TOBWA... now tobwa is definitely not my fav Malawian drink but its okay! They make it from maize flour and these special seeds. If you want to know what it tastes like just grind up some dirty corn and put it in water and add a little sugar. ;-) yum !

Hope you all have a good week!

Another Week!

Hello!

This week we traveled again to Lusaka! President has important things he wants to help our mission with before he goes home and so we are going to be going a lot. But this time I was so inspired on how to set goals and I really learned a lot. As missionaries, maybe for those of you that don know, we set goals every week for what we want to achieve and make plans for how we can help the people we teach progress towards baptism. Goals are very important and each week when we strive to reach our goals it motivates us, and we see the results too! I’m grateful for all the things I learn on mission and know that they will help me in the future too.

Not much happened this week because we were gone but we still had some great people that we saw and found. We are teaching a finance to a member in our branch and she is so fun. She actually stays in the village but every time she comes and visits Lilongwe to see her to-be-husband we get to see her! We have the best people here in Malawi and everyday I am reminded how blessed I am.

Anyways that’s all but I hope you all have a great week! And I added some pics of Owen too!

Truly Humble

Editor's Note: Harper was unable to upload all her pictures but she promises to send some of Owen next week. :)

This week was another good one!

We had two people get baptized this week.

We have an awesome member named Arch Angel. He is a recent convert of almost a year and he is the nicest guy ever. He takes people in that need help and lets them stay with him until they get a good start. So when he brings people in we teach them! And one of them is the one that got baptized this week. His name is Henry! He is such a good guy who has a strong desire to keep the commandments. He is so humble and really has showed me that some things we just accept and act on, and then the blessings come. When we were teaching him Word of Wisdom, which is a law of health, he talked about how it just makes sense and how willing he was to give up tea and live the commandment! No questions asked, just humbly followed the guidelines our Heavenly Father has set.

The other person that got baptized was Unity’s little brother. OWEN. He is the best haha and is always making us laugh. During our last lesson, I asked him why he wanted to be baptized and he said because he doesn’t want to do bad anymore but good. Then I tried to teach him that when he is baptized he is following Jesus Christ’s example. So I asked him, "When you are baptized you are also following someone else’s example. He was baptized a LONG TIME before you. Do you know who he is?"
He says, "Russell M. Nelson...”
“No...”
“SISTER MOULTON."
“Well yes, but noooo…."
“Sister George."
“Well yes, but remember a LONG TIME AGO. . .”
"JOSEPH SMITH!"
“HAHA YES, BUT NOOO. Who died for our sins Owen and set the example for us?"
“JESUS CHRIST!”
There you go nicely done. When we are baptized we follow the example of Jesus Christ. On the day of his baptism he WAS SO EXCITED and had me take so many pics of him in his suit. Cute kid. When he came out of the water after being immersed he was so in shock from the cold! We are happy for him and the example he will set now for the rest of his family. We were sad the mom didn’t get to come again. We keep inviting her and will keep trying. Little by little or as we say here "Pongono pongono!"

This week though we had so many experiences that really humbled me and made me realize that its not all about us or about what we say but it is the spirit touching the heart of the people we teach. One example was when we were teaching this guy who is a STRONG Seventh Day Adventist. They believe in going to church on Saturday. They are Christians but they believe that we still need to live by the law of Moses and worship on Saturday. We tired to help him understand some of the reasons why we go to church on Sunday some of them being that we partake of the sacrament on that day, the same day that Jesus Christ broke bread with his disciples but more importantly it is because we worship his resurrection which happened on Sunday! But at the end of the lesson he still wasn’t convinced, but that’s not what we are there to do, so I bore my testimony and ended the lesson and committed him to come to church and see. I don’t know what the future will hold for that guy but I do know that we did all we can.

Another one was fast and testimony meeting on Sunday. Fasting always bring such peace in my heart and I’ve really gained a strong testimony of it on mission. When we are in need of something or even if we want to feel closer to God, we can fast and the spirit can more fully be with us during that time. Even the testimonies shared during church really strengthened me and reminded me HOW BLESSED I AM TO BE A MISSIONARY! Many people shared their conversion story and all of those things had to do with missionaries teaching them and helping them come closer to Jesus Christ. How blessed I am to be part of that great time in someone’s life.

I hope you all have a great week!

with lots of love,
